Help:can't decide between bali hyatt or griya santrian

hope to go to sanur in august but just can%26#39;t decide which hotel to go to, on TA they all sound great we are swaying towards the griya in an upgraded room but then we look again and the hyatt wins over please any help would be grateful

Help:can't decide between bali hyatt or griya santrian

everyone has their favourite hotel and out of the two you mention the bali hyatt is mine, i have stayed there numerous times. even the garden view rooms at the hyatt are good. if you stay here you also have the option of using the free hotel shuttle and going to the grand hyatt in nusa dua and using the facilities there. the hyatt has beautiful gardens designed by Made Wijaya. (he has written some great books on garden design). the griya is also very good. hard decision. maybe you could do some google searches and look at more photos of each property as well. both hotels are in a good position. the hyatt is more central and the griya further north. some people prefer to be a little north but to be honest with the cheap price for a bemo you can be anywhere along the street for a dollar or two. they hyatt has a lovely stretch of beach. good luck choosing.

thank you for your reply, we are teetering towards the hyatt, can you tell me what sort of price to expect for food and drink (beer, spirits) in the hyatt compared to bars and restaurants outside? and are there plenty of places to eat drink within walking distance along the beach in the evening

thanks again

Hi admin37

I have stayed at both hotels and I prefer the Griya. It is much smaller and more personal. I always found the pool area to be very busy at the Hyatt Also, the location of the Griya is better in my view. lots of great quality restaurants both on the road and the beach side within easy walking distance.

Cost of food and drink in the Sanur hotels is far greater than outside. Last year the cost of eating and drinking out was very cheap. Expect to pay a little more now.

thank you for your reply... I must say that on TA most of the reports are great about the Griya so now I just don%26#39;t know what to do they both sound good, is there much difference in rooms ie. does the Griya provide toiletries in bathroom, do they provide pool/beach towels, also I have read that you can hire a driver for the day to take you around is this easy to do and roughly what would the cost be,

thanks in advance to any replies

as for drivers you can pre book a recommended driver from the forum. there is a list of drivers who you can e mail or you can hire a driver off the street. you will hear offers of %26#39;transport%26#39; as you are walking along. as it is your first trip it may be an idea to book at least one or two days with a recommended driver. if you like i can give you the contact details of a couple just e mail me if you want. as for your hotel choice good luck. the hyatt has 3 room types garden view, ocean view and regency club. the garden view rooms are just as good in my opinion. i have had all three. regency club has added bonuses. all rooms have a good selection of toiletries heaps of towels, and they offer turn down service and will re stock your towels and toiletries yet again. there are pool towels so everything you want is there. at night there is someone playing a piano in the lobby and during the day there is gamelan playing in the lobby and near the pool. even though the hotel is large it is set in beautiful gardens, some of the best in bali. the designer Made Wijaya certainly did a fantastic job and the gardens are maintained beautifully. you can walk around or join a garden tour with the head gardener. don%26#39;t let the size of the hotel influence you as it does not feel a large hotel. the stretch of beach here is regarded as one of the best in sanur. there are plenty of restaurants and local shops to stroll to. no matter where you stay there are local green bemos to get you to any part of the street you wish to be. The prices of food in the large hotels like the hyatt are not overly expensive and compare with what i would pay anywhere here in australia BUT once you go to a local warung you are paying extremely low prices. the hyatt also own telaga naga restaurant which is across the road from the hotel. the restaurant is set in a lotus pond. they have a good menu but their 2 set menus are good value for $%26#39;s. there are also cheap places for spa treatments outside the hotel such as mandara spa. the local ladies on the beach also do massages for about 45,000 to 55,000rp and they also do nails.

there are lists of restaurants in sanur either by doing a search on the forum OR visiting a site such as bali eats.

perhaps you could do a google search for images of both hotels or look at the travellers photos on trip advisor perhaps to help you get more of an idea about the hotels.

We stayed in Griya last year but where not so satisfied (read my report). This year we will try Hyatt. Griya does provide toiletries and beach/pool towels but they had a poor quality. Near to Hyatt there are some good restaurants like Charming en Ming. We loved them!

I think Hyatt is a better choise but you will love Sanur as much we did anyway.

Hi admin37,

Have just spent a week at The Hyatt-Sanur in early March, and would return in a heartbeat!! We had Garden view rooms - interconnecting as we travelled as a family (ground level) which were fantastic, the help yourself breakfast in the Wantilan Cafe was to die for, and the pool area was anything but crowded, I found it very peaceful (after spending the second week at The Bali Dynasty in Kuta!!)If you do decide on the Hyatt we found a great little cafe about 200 m along on the beach (turn right at the Pizza ria) called the Cafe Bamboo that served a great Mie Goreng for AUD $4.00.

Hi Nearing40! Would you mind telling me the approx price of breakfast in the Hyatt? We are staying there this August but on a room only basis so was wondering if it was best to eat at hotel or somewhere else? Thanks for advice in advance!

Hi Veryexcited44!

We had an all inclusive (room and b%26#39;fast) when we booked at the Hyatt, so are not sure of individual cost of breaky. In our travel brochure it has children as $14 AUD, so i would probably double it for adults. It might pay to ask your travel agent, or e-mail the Hyatt to find out. (usually it%26#39;s cheaper to pre-pay before you go?) We definately did enjoy the breakfast, but there would be other options along the beach path, or on the main street behind the resort. the choice is yours!! Good luck.

food is not cheap at the hyatt. see if you can get brekky included in your deal. if not just walk outside the hotel either beach front or main road and you will find lots of very cheap places to eat. there is also a supermarket called hardys (you can walk or get a cheap bemo). here you can buy food, fruit, snacks, bottled water, milk, yoghurt, juice and there is a nice bakery etc should you choose to eat in your room occasionally for brekky. there is also some good food choices around this area. good coffee etc.
