Day Trips

Going on a family holiday in June and was wondering if anyone had done day trips out of Nusa Dua, looking for elephant rides, boat trips, cultural, would like to see small vilages have a meal etc. Also shopping where to go and not get ripped off.

Day Trips

i assume this is your first trip to bali? if it is it is a good idea to book a recommended driver.( there is a list of recommended drivers to choose from). this way they can help you plan some days out to the various places you want to visit. there is always locals offering %26#39;transport%26#39; but this does not happen so much in nusa dua as most of the hotels are located away from the locals. it is much cheaper to hire a driver rather than book tours. a driver will charge approx 400,000rp -550,000rp for a full day so you get to see and do a lot for this low price. a trip to ubud and surrounding areas is a great idea to see local culture. there are many stops along the way. there are beautiful temples to visit, volcano rice paddies, hot springs, artisans, local markets, the list is endless. there is an elephant park and also the bali safari and marine park which is a great day out, they also have an elephant show and for an extra 100,000rp you can ride an elephant. there are water activities at tanjung benoa (close to where you are staying). as for shopping you will be surrounded by hundreds of opportunities. there are fixed price shops like the larger department stores and shopping centres also fixed price handicraft shops like %26#39;geneva%26#39;, also local markets (ubud and sukuwati are good) and then there are lots of local shops where bargaining is the thing to do. don%26#39;t rush and buy things straight away if you are unsure of prices. just listen to what others are paying and check out a few different shops selling the same / similar items. basically offer approx one third of what they are asking and settle somewhere around the middle. (rough guide only just to give you some idea how bargaining works). if you hire a driver for the day then they will take you to shops and markets as well and help you with prices and also suggest some places for good meals. I have a couple of good drivers i use. if you want their contact details and more information just e mail and i will pass on their details.

Hi snooky travel tips, could you send me a msg with details of good drivers as we are going to Targung Benoa in 8 weeks

Thanks faye cheshire
