My friend and I have about a month to travel in Indoniesia. We are thinking of starting the trip by seeing Bali for a few days to a week then heading in the Komoto direction, then to the Banda Islands.
We have never been here, points of interest are Gili Islands, (suggested place to boat in from?) possibly Mt. Rinjani, Nusa Tenggara Timar, spice Islands. We want to trek allot, beach allot, maybe mountain explore, white water rafting. Baically, looking for remote but friendly and beautiful. We are thinking of April/May, can you suggest must see places or a great route? We need to lock in flights in the next few days..Mahalo from Maui, Dan
What to do for a month?
Hi,
Can%26#39;t help you very much here, but you can get to the Gilis from Bali - there is a boat. Go to the Bali forums. There are quite a few postings on this. Just search the forum and you should be able to get more info.
Also think about going to Borobudur - one of UNESCO%26#39;s World Heritage Sites. and while you%26#39;re at it, head to Prambanan (same area) as well. You can also go to Java from Bali. There is a driver, Putu Nastra who has driven people from Bali to Java and back - to see Borobudur. You may not want to do that, but that%26#39;s just a suggestion and an alternative way to get there. If you want to do that, you can find Putu%26#39;s details in the Inside Page on Drivers in Bali. He is a qualified tour guide and also speaks fluent Spanish.

Thanks for all your input, after seeing the challenges of transportation and reading other peoples experiences, we are thinking we may want to situate ourselves in Bali first, get a (value minded) villa/cottage, by the week, we want (the 2 of us) to be by a nice beach with good swimming and snorkeling, we also like mountainous landscapes where we can hike to. Any thoughts as to what part of Bali we should be looking at? We can decide on where to travel once we get there and get a feel for the place.
Hi MauiDanny,
Glad I was able to point you in the right direction.
Places like Bandas are for really hard core travellers who do not mind the problems of getting to a place- for them it is part of the adventure.
Head over the Bali forum on this website and have a look at what is being written up.
You can also visit www.balitravelforum.com
and read what travellers are writing.
BTF also have a very extensive archives you can access for past information.
I am not really a Bali person- give me Sumatra, Aceh and Java any day.
Pamela.
