Duty Free Alcohol

Hi ,

We are going to Bali in 2 weeks and were wondering what the allowances are for taking alcohol into Bali ?

We think it is 1 litre into Bali then 2 litres back into Australia ?

Can we buy our drink at Sydney airport prior to flying out or do we have to buy on arrival in Bali ?As when we went to Phuket last year we had a few hour stopover in Singapore and bought it there.

We had heard there is only one little shop at

the airport in Bali ?

Thanks Sue %26amp;Mark

Duty Free Alcohol

best to buy it at the duty free at the airport in sydney before you leave. the allowance is 1 ltr each going out. it is then better to buy again when you get back to oz at the duty free as you arrive. allowance is 2 ltr each.

Duty Free Alcohol

Hi ,

Thought you had your drink taken off you if you buy in Australia as it is over the 100 ml allowed .As we have heard of people that bought in Australia before arriving and had it taken off them.Or do you buy at duty free in Australia and then they deliver to the gate that you are leaving from and have it all sealed up for you.

Thanks Sue%26amp;Mark

everybody buys it at the airport and they let you take it on board. we did have to buy a sealed bag as we had a stop over in KL. the 100ml rule is very strict in regard to liquids and toiletries etc. for some reason they let you take the alcohol on board! we have had our toothpaste and poppers (for our 2 yr old) taken off us yet they let us take the alcohol.

this is off the airport website

http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/SACL/Shopping/T1+International+Terminal/Duty+Free/Allowances/default.htm

2. Alcohol

2.25 litres of alcoholic beverages for each passenger aged 18 years or over.

3. Tobacco

250 cigarettes, or 250 grams of cigars or tobacco products for each passenger aged 18 years or over.

You can pool your duty free concessions if you are a family travelling together.

last year ...if you where traveling jetstar you couldnt take it onboard ...I have herd that, they have changed that now ...anyone know if they have stepped up to the rest of the airlines and agreed to allow it onboard now ?????????

cheers

the duty free store will put it in a tamper proof plastic back - if it is not in one of these you will not be able to bring it onto the plane.

Suggest buying Dutyfree at the Aust or other airports better price and selection - be aware also common spirits like absolute vodka, gordons gin are only about $16 Aust dollars to buy from the supermarket here. (top shelf is more $$)

i find buying it from bali duty free , a lot cheaper than sydney duty free .

a 1 ltr bottle of scotch was around the US$15 mark so with todays exchange rates thats a great price !

but as i said , last time when we went to stock up at bali airport , when we showed that we were on the jetstar flight , the lady ';very honestly'; told us that we couldnt buy it ......it wasnt that we couldnt buy it , she could have easily sold it to us , but we wouldnt have gotten it on the plane , it would have been confiscated straight away .regardless wether it was in a bag or not .

so bridgidE , have you flown jetstar and taken alcohol on board with you , sealed in the bag ???

thanks

cheers

Hi,

We found the alcohol much cheaper buying it in Bali to take home..Our friends travelling Garuda last December were able to take alcohol on the plane from oz to Bali because it was sealed and checked I suppose by duty free..but she had 50mls too much face moisturiser and had to leave that behind that wasn`t allowed on as hand luggage..

They took her lipstick too I don`t know what harm they thought that could do..

Sorry Batt I haven%26#39;t gone Jet star or bought from the duty free shops here.. the exchange rate is probably in your favor here these days (the stock was probably purchased way before the slump of the USD LOL!)

I have HEARD that they don%26#39;t have the tamper proof bags here in Bali.. (not sure whether it is true or not) thus you can%26#39;t take the liqueur on the plane..

From memory the prices are different at the shop at arrivals area than at the departures!

I travel all the time but I don%26#39;t usually buy spirits to take out unless it is at the destination arrivals (rather not lug it all over the place) and especially to places like NZ and Aussie where I make the most of the beautiful wine!

I bought a bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin on Tuesday from Sing Airport and it was 24 sing dollars and the price was 22 USD here at Duty free - that is a pretty close price yes?

All bottles of makeup etc need to be under 100mls size even if they 1/2 empty! - nuts yes blame the US %26#39;fear factor%26#39;

thanks brigidE

i wish bali airport would catch up with the rest of the world with the tamper proof bags then !!! lol

i am going to singapore too ....but on my way to phuket , so i dont want to be lugging it around either .....i have prices from the sydney airport website , so if hardys or matahari or anywhere else has it cheaper than sydney , i will grab it and put it in my check in luggage .

as for the lippy .....you might paint your face with it and look like a clown and give everyone on the plane a bit of entertainment...thats why you cant take it on ! hahahahahahaha

you know last year i was told i couldnt take my water onboard , but was MADE to take my lighter out of my bag and put it in my pocket .....i think i could do more damage to people with my cigarette lighter than i EVER could with the bottle of water ....hahahahahahahahahahaha

cheers

Hi,

Pretty sure the 100ml restrictions only apply going through security. Anything you buy after that (including duty free) is fine. But if you go to dan murphy%26#39;s and stock up before you go, they will take it off you at security check. Can you take alcohol into Bali in your checked luggage?
