Around Novatel Nusa Dua - eating and groceries

Hello

We are staying at the Novatel Nusa Dua in August - and I was wondering if there was anywhere we could buy breakfast and lunch provisions at a reasonable price. we are tsyaing in a 2 bed roomed apartment but I don%26#39;t have a sense as to what is about locally to do at a reasonable price.

Any good restaurants - good for kids - would be appreciated!

i suggest you take a few boxes of breakfast cereal and other assorted items like biscuits, tortillas, cans of spaghetti etc for the kids along with some plastic bowls and spoons. imported cereal and other goods is very expensive in bali. i watched someone pay $15AUD for a small box of just right at nusa dua. local grocery items are cheap but if your children like certain food and you want to prepare some meals then take some with you. there is no problem putting them in your luggage. nusa dua is not the cheapest place compared to staying in other areas in bali. there is a supermarket and some restaurants at the %26#39;bali collection%26#39;. this is located near the grand hyatt. they offer a shuttle bus to / from the hotels in nusa dua. at this supermarket you can pick up basics like milk, juice, soft drink, bottled water other assorted items. there are some %26#39;cheaper%26#39; restaurants at the local village. there are two places to try. mengiat st (south gate) and the main gate for cheaper restaurants. these places also offer free pick up / drop off. get a taxi there first up and get some business cards of places you wish to try and just call them. otherwise you can get to tanjung benoa.

here is a map which shows what i mean.

there is a very cheap supermarket called carrefour which is not far from the airport IF you can a trip here to stock up would be good. there are also other shops here. the food court here is very cheap. the exchange rate is not as good in nusa dua either so ask your taxi driver to stop at a money changer b4 you head to your hotel. nusa dua does have a KFC.

There is a large supermarket that is cheap and reasonable right near the entrance of Nusa Dua and the turn off for Tanjung Benoa. Its called Hardy%26#39;s, on the opposite side of Jl Bypass heading toward Nusa Dua. Its not necessary or recommended to shop at Bali Collection for food. Hardy%26#39;s is great for snacks, essentials like eggs, milk, fruit, meats, coffee, beer and drinks. There is even a small liquor store.

More upscale items are available at Gourmet Garage, located behind the Lotus Enterprises building on Jl Bypass. Its about half way to Nusa Dua from the airport. Nice deli counter, great bread items there too. And an excellent ice cream counter!!

I have a 6 year old, same problem. Go to Carrefour and stock up on juices, snacks etc. Great variety available at reasonable prices. I let her choose some snacks herself so she would try something new and she loved it. Dairy products are the most difficult (quality wise)to get in Bali (yoghurt etc) but we made it up with regular icecreams in the afternoon. Definately bring multipacks of cereal, the one%26#39;s already in the%26#39;bowls%26#39; are great, just add milk, plastic spoon - voila no washing up (you are on holiday remember!)It%26#39;s good for them to have some familiar brands (nutrigrain) etc when everything else is new. Pizza is great for lunchtime - you can even get it at Carrefour! If your in Tuban/Kuta for the day, I like the food court in Discovery Mall upstairs, clean, aircon and there is a mini timezone which my daughter loved.

Enjoy your stay.

We have stayed at the Novotel Nusa Dua with kids in 2007 %26amp; 2008. We have always had breakfast included and the spread is huge.

For breakfast supplies there are supermarkets %26amp; or mini marts in Bualu Village (5 mins walk), Bali Collection Shopping Mall (10 mins walk) %26amp; Hardys Supermarket complex on the way back towards Kuta 5 mins by car. All easy to find %26amp; pretty cheap prices.

At the Novotel Nusa Dua for lunch there is a reasonably priced bakery called Pause Café which we used a few times. There were pies, quiches, pastries and drinks. The pool snacks aren%26#39;t overly priced and are also available at the beach club at the same cost.

For dinner we walked around the corner to Bualu Village where there are numerous dining options. We chose Cheers twice where the waitresses were clad in tacky maids outfits. They mimic the “Cheers” logo but that’s about all. The copywrite Police would have a field day in Bali! The food was good; there were TVs with sports, free 8 ball tables, darts and a foosball table. There is also a kids corner with playstation and colouring in etc. The kids thought it was great that we could all play games at tea time. Wife %26amp; kids had BBQ chicken slices which you cook to your liking on a table cooker. I had the just best steak on a hot stone. You all get to wear aprons as you cook away youself at your table, which is a novel touch.

Mai Mai Restaurant in Bualu Village has been an old favourite in the last 2 visits.

We also went to Nyomans Beer Garden twice for tea in Bualu Village. A very nice establishment and well patronised which is always a good sign. The bar staff are a very freindly bunch of guys.

There are heaps of restuarants which are not within walking distance e.g Benoa which will pick you up %26amp; return you for free.

In Benoa we went to LaScala. Having now been converted to traditional Balinese Cuisine I had the Aussie sirloin in pepper sauce and the wife enjoyed a chicken melting Ph.775605.

Casablanca Benoa Ph.778631. (Nice food and staff, they had three young traditional dancers who chatted with the kids and provided top entertainment).

We have also had a nice feed at Pavilion near the Nusa Dua Gates Ph: 774551.

If you want an upmarket meal try Tao on the coast in Benoa. They have a website. You can spend the afternoon there lazing by the trendy pool %26amp; then have a feed and be taken back to your resort. We had a walk through in 2007 and it is on our to do list.

There are heaps of restaurants about. You won%26#39;t have a problem. They all have staff outside handing you business cards as you go.

Enjoy!!

What wonderful wonderful advice you have all provided me - Many thanks.

We usually do the %26#39;breakfast included'; but we are watching our pennies - and at an extra quote of $US120 per day extra for breakfast, I just thought this was too much (over 14 days).

great Ideas - cant thank you enough
