Is Bali a safe place to travel for women on their own?? Ive heard they get hassled alot? Ive been to thailand,,is it worse than that?
women lone travellers in Bali
Like anywhere in the world, women travelling alone should always take certain safety precautions. While I have not been to Bali alone, I have always travelled with a girlfriend or two and we have never had any problems. I know of several women who have gone there alone, with absolutely no problems. The Balinese are among the friendlist, most gracious and beautiful people in the world and are always very welcoming. As long as you are not out on the streets or down dark alleyways late at night all alone, I%26#39;m sure you will have no problems at all. Besides, you usually make friends with people staying at your hotel.

Hi
I have been to Bali twice on my own and have enjoyed myself. I do not venture far from the hotel at night time, (at home I do not go out after dark if on my own).
I have always made friends with others staying at the hotel. Travellers are usually happy to chat.
I have also found restaurant staff happy to stop and talk if they are not busy. I do not tell anyone in shops or markets that I am on my own. Just to be safe.
If asked I say my friend is back at the hotel.
I have even got a driver through the hotel and gone on a all day trip to a couple of museums and Ubud.
So, if you keep your wits about you, just as you would at home, you should be fine.
cheers

Hi lex222
I have just returned from a %26#39;solo%26#39; trip to Bali. While i have been to Bali before in the early days with girlfriends and the latter years with hubby,(maybe because I know the do%26#39;s and dont%26#39;s etc,)I would not hesitate to return on my own.Agree with Elizabeth not to venutre down dark lanes or streets on your own late at night or in early hours of the morning.
The guys in Bali are only too happy to chat with you and are very helpful in a generous/friendly way,you will be offered %26#39;transport%26#39; every couple of steps, and asked to look in their shops but just a polite %26#39;no thank you%26#39;%26#39;tidak terima kasih%26#39; as you pass is all that is needed.(unless you want to look in their shops)
Where else but in Bali would you be told you look %26#39;17yrs%26#39; even though you have hit the big 50!You%26#39;ve gotta love the guys and laugh with them, it%26#39;s that kinda place!!
Cheers

the amount of hassling depends on where you stay. in kuta, you%26#39;ll experience more by both Indonesian and Western men. in ubud, probably very little. though annoying, none of the hassling I experienced was threatening. I would consider Bali to be a safe destination for solo female travellers.
I go to Bali at least twice a year on my own. I do go out at night. When it gets close to midnight it is deadly quiet so I%26#39;m a bit more cautious but I have never had a problem walking back to my hotel.
People complain about being hassled all the time (day/ night/ men/women). It%26#39;s all in the attitude. If you walk around with your head low (don%26#39;t notice me attitude) you%26#39;ll be a target. I look at EVERYONE and smile. I guess I%26#39;m pretty trusting but I%26#39;ve never been let down by my instincts.
I wasn%26#39;t hassled in Thailand either. Well- except by those scam artists.
Go, be friendly, have fun. Then go back and do it all again.
hey, does anyone recommend any good accommodation (thats not too expensive) to stay as a lone women in Bali? Ive noticed there doesnt seem to be the %26#39;dorm%26#39; option so im assuming i will have to pay for a double room?
I just came back - was a lone female traveller - and stayed at Green Garden due to the price - met burns39 there and lots of other people. Price good and lovely little hotel in great location.
Found more people talk to you when you are on your own met another lady also on her own she regularly travells to bali alone and stays at green garden.
I would go on my own again in a blink I had a great time, and was not hassled at all, but love the compliments that you get from the bali men, makes you feel like a princess.
Hi Lex. Yes you will need to get room yourself. Some places give a discount for single but it%26#39;s not much cheaper.
Places are so cheap in Bali compared to nywhere else you%26#39;ll find it very affordable anyway.
You can get a decent place with Air Con, pool and a small breakfast for 250.000rp.
That%26#39;s about $25US.
I%26#39;ve come back from travelling alone, it was a magic holiday..
I learn%26#39;t to just walk along shaking my head in a constant ';no';. I know it sounds funny, but it was the only way to keep the all the guys and drivers from trying to get my attention. Other than that, it was so safe for me, I didn%26#39;t go out at night though.
