Will Borobudur be closed for Wesak? Stay in Ibis ok?

Will be travelling to Yogya 1-4 May 2009. Will Borobudur be closed for Wesak celebrations for that week? Wesak will fall on 9 May 2009 next year.

Plan to stay in Ibis Yogya. Is that okay?

Any suggestions for my itinerary and car/van rental? 2 person and a baby in my group.

Hi,

Borobudur is open as usual, but will be very very crowded.

The Ibis is good 3 star hotel with all the facilities you will need and the location is great.

The are lots of travel agencies along Jalan Sosrowijayan (5 minutes walk from the Ibis) where you can organise either tours, or cars with drivers for trips around the local area.

instead of being closed, it will be very packed.

every year Wesak is celebrated at Borobudur area, so i suggest you to stay at least a night here.

a lot of homestay / budget rooms here.

two years ago i was there. Big event where the Indonesian President and South East Asian ambassadors were all there. plus monks from all over the world.

i stayed at pondoktingal, good location and cheap.
