Spiders on Bali?

Hi, has anyone had any unpleasant experiences with spiders on Bali? We%26#39;re thinking of going there in late June but I%26#39;m arachnophobic and would freak out if I saw any larger ones than what we have here in St. Louis (US), which are relatively small.

Thanks!

Spiders on Bali?

Hi, I haven%26#39;t noticed spiders in Bali. But coming from Australia I wouldn%26#39;t particularly notice.

I haven%26#39;t noticed spider webs (I notice them as I walked into one once ad freaked out).

I doubt you would have a problem.

Spiders on Bali?

Hi,

It depends on where you;re staying, I think. I have seen some spiders in Bali. If you are renting a villa in ubud and the living area is open, you might get them at night, but I think there are other creepy crawlies, not just spirders. The spiders taht I have seen are very small. A friend of mine once rented a villa in Ubud and felt like a prisoner at night because she would only stay in her room, on the bed, under the mosquito net. She is terrified of bugs and the first night, when everyone was having a drink in the living area, a rhinoceros beetle fell into her cup of coffee. She screamed and headed straight for protection - undr her mosquito net. Subsequent nights would hear her screaming one and off because of the bugs.

You can also get some bugs in the south. But really it depends on where you stay. If you stay in somewhere like Nusa Dua or one of the big name chain hotels, your chances of bugs in general would probably be slightly less than if you stayed in a villa/place which had an open living room and an open bathroom.

Are you kidding? There are monster spiders in Bali. I have seen webs spanning the street, anchored to trees on either side, and a spider the size of a bird casually sitting in the middle. Dangerous? Probably not. But are there spiders? Yes. Lots of them. And scorpions. And snakes.

You probably won%26#39;t encounter many, if any. Don%26#39;t worry about it.

That%26#39;s funny about the Rhino Beetle. They hiss like crazy if you pick them up. Quite an interesting bug.

Kedaabby, this thread is a year old, so the original poster has probably already been to Bali.

Bali is in the tropics, so of course there are going to be all manner of insects there. Worst you%26#39;ll probably encounter in the big resorts is the occasional cockroach (usually in MY bathroom) and mossies. Nothing to be alarmist about.

maybe the date of original postings should be enlarged to help people see.
