help with 1st time to bali sanur in june please

Thank you for looking at my post.

1. We are coming over to Sanur staying at the Gryer for eight nights. Can you help us with breakfast and dinners. Is the Griya a good hotel. Anything that could help us get more out of our holiday.

2. We are then off to Ubud for two days any good eating places any sights we should not miss.

3. This leaves us with four days we have free. Do any of you experts recommend any resport, hotel, area which would finish our holiday off nicely before we would have to return back.

We are on a budget of 3-4star we love lovely views, wildlife, and a nice meal with good company.

We will be there in June. Are there any festivals etc. on at that time.

Thanks for looking

Soooooo excited

1. Griya is a good hotel, excellent location, you have plenty of shops, restaurants etc on your doorstep. It%26#39;s beachfront too. To get more out of your holiday, try to make the effort to learn a bit of Indonesian, it can be quite rewarding.

2. Lots of good eating places in Ubud, too many to try in 2 days. My personal faves are Cafe Wayan and Lotus Restaurant. If you want to push the boat out, have a look at Mozaic, but you need to book in advance and give your credit card details. Monkey Forest is worth a visit, and catch a dance show at Ubud Water Palace (not to be confused with Ubud Palace). Check out the tour offices in Ubud for ideas of where to go and what to see, you can book tours at very short notice.

3. If you like your food, Seminyak is worth spending a few days in. Stay near Jalan Laksmana (';Eat Street';) which becomes lively on a night time with it%26#39;s funky restaurants. Lots of boutique shops on Jalan Legian to part with all your remaining cash.

Never stayed at the Gryer, We have stayed at Sanur Beach Hotel (it has a very good SPA and a great bar on the beach - happy hour is around 6, with music and the seats around the bar are swings.Bamboo Bar. Need to stop. We also have stayed at the Puri Santrian, very nice also. They have two restaurants, one is the Mezzanine its right at the entrance to the hotel, its very good. It also has music on some nights. Next door is the Aston (I think that the name of it, we ate there the last time we were in Sanur and it was very good. Its fairly new. There are also 2 ATM%26#39;s in the parking lot next to Mezzanine and Aston.

Also in the area is the Cat and the Fiddle - nice, friendly place, steak was good, and music also sometimes. One other place we liked was called Ribs, its past Hardy%26#39;s - Hardy%26#39;s is a large grocery store and it has every nic nac that is made in Bali. A good place to stop and price. Ubud is great, if you have 4 more days I would extend my stay in Ubud. Ubud has so many good restaurants, shops and museums. They put out a small book called UBUD community that has a map and places to go. Its very good. Restaurants: Cinta, great ribs and Mojito%26#39;s. Its right on Monkey Forrest Road. Cafe Lotus, best view in town. Its a must stop, its right next to the Palace. Just a block down to the left(as you face Cafe Lotus)go across the street, up the hill (Jalan Bisma street) you will find artist shops, and Cafe Des Artistes great steaks. Roda Internet is also there. Its got the best equipment, best staff and best prices. Worth going there. 3 Museums: ARMA, Blanco and Neka (the one thats way out not the one in town. ARMA also has a great Thai restaurant and we had lunch there. Across the street from Neka museum is Naughty Nuris, great food. Back in town on Monkey Forest road is Bumi Bali, local food and very good.Although we have never ate there, Mosiac restaurant is a little expensive. Too many good places at more than reasonable prices. Also behind Cafe Lotus are the rice fields, there is a sign on the front of the restaurant that tells you how to get there. Nice walk, really don%26#39;t need a guide. Speaking of guide, if you plan on hiring a driver to take you to places let us recommend the one we have used for our 3 trips to Bali. He speaks very good English, is a licensed tour guide and an excellent driver, trustworthy, and very knowledgeable. Email: mertagct@telkom.net.

We have used him to pick us up at the airport, take us to our hotel, then some tours, then from one hotel to another and then more tours and finally back to the airport. You will love Ubud, although Sanur is very nice you will wonder why you didn%26#39;t spend more time in Ubud. I definitely would not go to Kuta, other than a quick trip to see it, but not to stay. Sorry I got carried away, but we definitely love Bali and Ubud is our favorite. John

wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww

what a great reply .........thank you guys so much..

boy are we looking forward to coming over to bali.

ps is it ok to get a scooter for a day ......

kind regards andy and wendy midlands uk.

You can get a scooter and many people do, but we on here don%26#39;t recommend it. You will understand perfectly once you see the traffic and driving habits (habits, as there are no rules) in Bali. You also make yourself targets for policemen who will demand bribes. You are supposed to get a special license in order to ride a scooter in Bali and without that you are a sitting duck. If anything happens, as well, it is automatically your fault, regardless of the circumstances.

The only traffic accidents I have ever witnessed in Bali have all involved tourists riding scooters.

Hello Happynoodleboy,

Can you tell me where in Seminyak (eat street) is.

Is it the street that runs down to the Sofitel? Im curious as we stayed at the Sofitel for only a week last year and found alot of restaurants/pubs on our walks up the street from the Sofitel.

thanks

Glenys

i agree with whinnie regarding hiring a scooter. not advisable and can be dangerous if you are not used to the hectic conditions. road rules are basically non existent except that the %26#39;biggest%26#39; vehicle often gets right of way. there is always traffic darting in and out with no logic and as mentioned a lot of accidents involve holiday makers. if you are in an accident the implications and costs would be the end of your holiday and bank balance. local drivers are cheap and it is better to sit back and relax. once you are there you will see what we mean.

you could easily spend more time in ubud.

here is a link to a calendar of events so you can see what is on

Hi Glenys,

Is the Sofitel near Gado Gado? I did the walk from Jalan Laksmana to Gado Gado one day, past Seminyak Square and onto the beach where Petitenget temple is, then down the beach. Took about 30 mins doing it this way. Note that as well as Eat Street and Jalan Laksmana, some people also call is Jalan Oberoi.

You soon know when you hit Eat Street on an evening as the place is crammed with traffic and beautiful people. There%26#39;s a reasonably good map of Seminyak at the link below, should be easy to see where Jalan Laksmana is in relation to Gado Gado:

I agree, would not advise renting a scooter. Either walk or hire a guide/driver. You can get cheap drivers but all they do is drive and really don%26#39;t know much about the places they take you to. I gave you the email of Merta, give him a try, you will not be sorry - it will be the highlight of your trip. John mertagct@telkom.net

Hi john

have sent e.mail to your driver any idea how long he takes to return ?

regards andy.

I hope right away. I know he is driving somone right now, a couple who was over there before with us, about 4 years ago has gone back and is using Merta. I emailed Merta this morning telling him you are waiting for an answer. He is really a good person and I hope you hook up with him. John
