How far is Borobudur from Yogyakarta

I%26#39;m planning to go to Yogyakarta from Bali but my main interest is to visit Borobudur, does anyone know how far it is Borobudur from Yogyakarta? Any knows how long does it take from the Grand Mercure hotel?

Borobudur is 45 min from the northern part of Yogya and about one hour from central Yogya by car.

Try not to visit on weekends or holidays as you%26#39;ll be sharing your experience with bus loads of visitors. Early morning is best, mid-afternoon second best. The site opens at 6:00 am for those not staying at Amanjiwo or Manohara hotels. Their guests can enter at 4:30am for sunrise. If I remember correctly the site closes at 5:00 pm. If your budget allows have a fantastic lunch at the nearby Amanjiwo ($50 to $75 USD). The architecture and setting are amazing. Simply the best hotel and food I%26#39;ve ever experienced anywhere.

Before going, read ';Borobudur: Golden Tales of the Buddhas';. Attend the Ramanyana Ballet evenings at Prambanan - quite a spectacle in the open air theater.

If you want a driver and/or a guide I can give my highest recommendation to the firm we used. Ask for Rohmad Hidajat - he%26#39;s fantastic - an educated gentleman who is knowledgeable and speaks excellent English.

I wasn%26#39;t particularly impressed with Yogya but the Borobudur countryside and people were warm, friendly and unforgettable.

I stayed at the Grand Mercure in Yogya and did Borobodur in a day trip - we didn%26#39;t have enough time to spend longer because we mainly wanted to relax at the Losari Coffee Plantation.

We left in the morning, visited Prambanan as well, stopped for lunch at a restaurant for locals - it was LOVELY. There was like a river/pond in the middle and families could take a small raft out and paddle with oars/punts. Of course, it%26#39;s not where near a fancy developed country%26#39;s restaurant, but the atmostphere was lovely adn the food was good.

I%26#39;ll try and hunt for the name of the tour guide who took us on the day trip and post it later. Gotta go off to work soon! We hired a driver and guide, so it was a personalised tour.

I think the price we paid was also preety average - after walking around and comparing....

form jogjakarata to borobudut it take about 45mnt to 1 hrs by bus.

From Yogya to Borobudur = 42 km. In normal traffic, from Mercure to Borobudur = 50 minutes
